Imagination

ImageOwen’s 3rd grade class read Charlotte’s Web this month. Each day they read a chapter at home and the next day in class they discussed the themes and meanings in each chapter. It was suppose to conclude with a class trip to the Oregon Children’s Theater to see Charlotte’s Web as a play but the snow last weekend put a kaibosh on that. Instead, we watched the movie last night for family movie night.

I love this book. And the movie was great too. I liked the Wilbur in this version. The cartoon movie I saw a super long time ago had a really whiny Wilbur. This version’s Wilbur was much more relaxed and while worried about being served up for dinner, was overall pretty joyful.

I read an article about E.B. White and his thoughts on imagination. So, your nugget of wisdom for the day…

“in real life, a spider doesn’t spin words in her web…but real life is only one kind of life–there is also the life of the imagination. And although my stories are imaginary, I like to think that there is some truth in them, too–truth about the way people and animals feel and think and act.”
